Hello!

My name is Alice Trow and I'm an art maker and nature lover based in Victoria, Australia. I graduated from the Queensland College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2017, majoring in painting and art theory.

To put it simply, my art practice stems from my love for the natural world–I'm such a 'look at the moon! look at the clouds! look at those trees!' type of person and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Currently, my practice is centered around capturing the effects of changing light on a landscape; depicting the 'magic hour' that comes with sunrises and sunsets. I'm fortunate enough to live near some of the most incredible coastlines Victoria has to offer and am finding endless inspiration in the ever changing nature of these landscapes.

My paintings are done on an intimate scale and, rather than demanding attention, my work gently encourages the viewer to lean in and engage with the scene before them. To me, there’s something special about a piece that quietly catches your eye and draws you in; I don’t believe something needs to be ‘big’ and ‘loud’ to be worthy of our attention, and I try to reflect that within my paintings.

My work is painted in a way that combines a mixture of realism and expression—whilst I love trying to paint a scene realistically, immersing myself in the tiniest details, it’s also just as important for me to try and capture the feeling of a place too.

As a result, my paintings are often quiet, calm and reflective; feelings which I think can be missing in our modern way of living.

                                                          ~

When I'm not making art you can find me thinking about making art (seriously), drinking copious amounts of tea, reading, trying to keep far too many house plants alive, getting out into nature with my partner Jimmy, or hanging out at home with my cat, Max.
